In accordance with Section 5.3 of the Agreement Concerning a New Relationship between the Quebec Government and the Crees of Quebec, the Cree Mineral Exploration Board (CMEB) was launched in March 2002 as a result of a signed agreement (Paix Braves) between the Cree Nation and the Quebec Government.
The mission of the CMEB is to develop mineral exploration in Eeyou Istchee and promote increased involvement of Crees in activities related to the development of natural resources.
As part of its mandate, the CMEB:
In addition, and according to the Annual Program of Activities, the CMEB promotes, initiates, and supports training programs as well as job development initiatives and placement.
The CMEB provides geological and geosciences expertise to the communities and for individual exploration. This includes guidance to geosciences data and environmental impacts assessments.
The head office of the CMEB is located in Wemindji, Quebec. A subsidiary office is located in Mistissini.
